Everyday care for Aspidistra elatior 'Shooting Stars'

Here’s how to look after me

Tips for success

Keep me thriving

I have low maintenance needs, but still appreciate a little attention. Observe the plant’s shape and new growth through the seasons, remove damaged material with clean tools and refresh the mulch when needed without piling it against the stem.

Flowering: You can expect me to flower in January, October, November and December. Local climate, position and seasonal conditions can make flowering begin earlier or finish later. Observe the plant rather than pruning by the calendar alone, particularly while buds or flowers are forming.

Watering: Even after I am established, check the soil at root depth periodically. Water slowly and deeply during extended dry periods and unusually hot or windy weather rather than watering frequently and shallowly. Monitor moisture more closely while the roots are still spreading into the surrounding soil.
